Growing up, Katie Mullis Busciglio’s heart was always drawn to 2 things:  music and children.  Starting at a young age of ten, Katie began involvement with her church’s Youth Group and Choir.  She was able to combine her passions with her church Youth Choir as they would tour along the east coast of the United States performing at battered womens’ shelters, children’s homes, and hospitals.  She also volunteered every Sunday morning at her church’s nursery throughout her middle school and high school years.  She was first introduced to the Kids Charity of Tampa by her sister-in-law Dina Sheridan, when invited to help build the playground at “A Kids Place” in Brandon, Fl in 2009.  It was this touching experience that inspired Katie to become more involved with local charities, particularly those that benefitted children in need.

With a background in vocal performance and musical theater and an education at a performing arts school, she is also no stranger to the stage.  Just days after her return from her European honeymoon, Katie took her talents to the American Idol producers and beat out nearly 16,000 contestants vying for a spot on the popular show.   Katie is currently a lead singer in an exciting 6 piece band in Tampa called G6, performing at venues locally such as Blue Martini, Hard Rock, as well as at exclusive events.

Katie is a lady who knows what she wants and follows her dreams, in both her personal and professional life.  She was born and raised in Florida but dreamed big when it came to her wedding.  In her own creative style, she planned an intimate yet majestic event and made it happen…on the magical Amalfi Coast in Italy in September of 2010.  A skilled team of videographers traveled to Italy to document this wedding experience.   Because of Katie’s special qualities that make her at once irresistible, adorable, and laugh-out-loud funny, her personality and vision shone through in the video, as well as that of her handsome husband and eclectic collection of 35 friends and family members who made the trek to join in the incredible experience.  Their wedding has now been nominated for The Wedding and Event Videography Association International Creative Excellence award in a Short Wedding Film, which is the equivalent of an Oscar in that industry.  Just one example of how everything Katie does is elevated to the next level by her creativity and vision.

Katie is the person everyone not only wants AT their events, but she herself loves to plan events. To that end, she is currently a member of the Special Events Planning Committee for the Kids Charity of Tampa Bay.  In addition to her philanthropic efforts, Katie works as a Community Liaison with her husband, Dr. Derek Busciglio, at his orthodontic practice, Busciglio Orthodontics, in Brandon.  She has a nursing background that has enabled her to assist her husband in growing the family practice that was started in 1972 by her father-in-law, Dr.  John A. Busciglio.   Her husband and Busciglio Orthodontics have been very involved with supporting Katie and her passion for the Kids Charity of Tampa Bay.

Having the privilege and honor to compete for a local children’s charity through the art of dancing and performing is yet another of Katie’s dreams coming true.  Katie would like to thank her wonderful friends and family, but in particular, her incredible and inspirational parents, Steve and Marcia Mullis, and her husband Derek for always supporting her dreams and helping make them into realities.
