Born in Miami to a Cuban mother and American father, Gina Midyett grew up in a bilingual home with four siblings.  Gina’s parents were both educators and instilled a love of teaching, learning, and helping others which has carried into her adult life.

The former Miss Cuba, who holds a bachelor’s degree in education, first began working as a teacher. She then went on to obtain her master’s in psychology, and later her doctorate in clinical psychology from Pepperdine University in Southern California. Gina now runs a private practice in Tampa where she provides mental health counseling, and hypnotherapy to a broad spectrum of clients, and has also served as a professor of psychology for several colleges across Tampa Bay.

A longtime fitness buff, and former figure competitor, Gina has been featured in several fitness magazines and publications. She and her husband Matthew Midyett are now the co-owners of the world famous Powerhouse Gym, a 40,000 sq ft, state of the art facility in downtown Tampa. The couple has two children, Matthew, 4, and Victoria, 3

Dr. Midyett believes the secret to her success has been not allowing negativity to bring her down, and persevering through challenges to accomplish her goals.

When she isn’t busy running her practice, Gina enjoys working out, cooking, and spending time with her family.
